Mr Buckley's StoryThis is a featured page

Mr Buckley was no good at harness racing. He was given too some people in Toodyay as a 3 yr old, but wasn't fed properly and was constantly bashed up by his paddock buddy. On the 14th October 2005, Mr Buckley was purchased by Heather and Dave for $1 and brought back to Sawyers Valley to live. He was shy, skinny, sad and hungry. To make things worse, someone had cut off his tail so he couldnt swish the flies away! He was so happy to see so much food (and even tolerated the worming paste), had his feet trimmed, received a medicated bath and good grooming, and soon got to like his new home!

Once he had gained some weight, health and confidence, Heather started working with Mr Buckley to turn him into a riding horse. He went out for lots of walks being ponied off Julia, and learnt to wear a saddle and bridle.

Mr Buckley took to ridden work like a duck to water and, on his 3rd ride off a lead rope, went to a dressage training day and behaved so well and tried so hard!

To improve his canter, Heather started doing some jumping with him, and it was soon evident that Mr Buckley LOOOOOVED to jump!

Now days Mr Buckley does some light competing and is doing quite well for a $1 horse! He never lets his rider down and tries his heart out to please. He is thoroughly enjoying his new life as a pleasure horse.
